Loudon), Crs Keast, " Stewart, Sullivan, Walker, M'Dqnald, Gilkison, Wilson, Rutherford, Cole, Smith, 1 i Fiddis, H. H. S. White, Small, J. E. j White, Tapley, Burnett. Cr Scott came [ ! in at 9.15 p.m. When the meeting me adjourned last 3 Wednesday night the motion before tho , chair was — " That the salary of the Town . Clerk (now £800) be increased by £200" . (Cr Small), to which the following amendment had been moved — "That tne matter stand over for 12 months." After considerable discussion, the motion was put, the voting being as follows : — For (9) : The Mayor, Crs Walker, Wilson, Rutherford, Cole, Fiddis, Small, J. E. White, and Tapley. Against (8) : Ore Keast, Stewart, Sullivan-, M'Donald,^ Gilkison, H. H. S. White, " Smith, and Borrnett. I—-The1 — -The resolution was accordingly carried. ' A new councillor remarked that tho minority was a very respectable one, whereupon "Gr J. E. White announced tihet he, for one, was " simply delighted " with the re&ult. { OTHEB BALABIEB. Cr Small moved the adoption of the remainder of the Finance Committee's report, as follows : — " The salaries of the following corporation qfficiais bo increased bm under:— R. A. Johnston. (town clerk's office), £10; R. C. T. Evans, £10 (and that these officers bo placed on the permanent staff) ; P. G. j Reid (cadet, municipal department), £10; W. D. R. M'Curdie (assistant engineer), £50; J. M'L&ehlan (works inspector), £15; F. B. Smith (works inspector), £15; A. Cross (works inspector), £15; R. S. Thompson (engineer's department), £10; D. Love (assistant cashier), £15; J. Lonsr (clerk, water department), £10; L. Grigg (cadet), £10; J. Timlin (clerk, gaa department). £10; J. Fraser (cadet), £10; J. Hungerford (gas manager), £50; A. Mitchell (bookkeeper, tramwaye department), £25; G. Dempster (clerk), £10; A. Gillies (northern reser\'oir keeper), £10 16s; W. Johnston' (southern reservoir keeper), £10 165." He desired to move an addition to the list— namely, that Miss Morton's salary bo , raised from £100 to £110. The addition was made to the report. It was agreed to *?ive the following in^ ' creases : —Mr R. S. Thompson £25, J. Lone £25, and G. Dempster £20. Cr Small moved the adoption of the following supplementary report: — "Your, committee recommend* that the minimum j wage for labourers employed by the Dun1 edin City Corporation be fixed at the rate of la per hour; no payment tp be made for holidays." Cr J. E. White seconded the motion. In reply to Cr Sullivan, the Mayor said! it was proposed to recommend thaf. foremen and gangers, about 20 in number, who 1 were now receiving 8s a day, should rec.eiva 8a 6(1 a day. Cr M 'Donald moved as an amendment that the words "no payment to be mada for holidays " be deleted. Cr Keast seconded the amendment, whicfi was carried. The motion as amended was agreed £o.
