TRAGEDY AT AUCKLAND.
DOCTOR COMMITS SUICIDE
AUCKLAND, June 15s.
Benjamin Rowsell. about 45 years of as?e, committed suicide last night. He was a medical man. and held in high esteem by a large circle of frienc!«, to -whom hi# tragic death caused a great shock. He had been travelling in the South Se» Islands, more especially with, a view to the study of elephantiasis, but had been in Auckland for the past 18 months. He wat especially well known ac secretary to tha St. George'e Rowing Club. The proprietor of the Commercial Hotel, with whom Hi Rowsell had been staying, received a letter this morning stating that his body would be found either at St. Stephen's Cemetery at Parnell or at Orakei, "and a.«king thei proprietor to coaimunitat" with the police. Dr Rowsell's body waa found at Painell Cemetery. . . Dr Rowsell apparently committed «u;c <!© by poisoning. It is understood that h« had been eii'ba: rat*- <1 in nu.ncj matter".
