THE AUSTRALIAN SPRING MEETINGS.
The entries which have just closed for the chief equine battles to be fought out during the Australian spring campaign show that there iis a poseibuitj of this country being well represented ra the fray. New Zealand-bred horses engaged in the Melbourne Cup include Seddon (the rising three-year-old brother to Wairiki), Solution, Delaware. Cross Battery, Pink In. Subterranean (late Submarine), Maniapo-o. Apologue, Mahutonga, and Putty. In the L'aulfield Cup the bet includes Grenadier, Solution. Captain Shannon, Ellis, Delaware, Pink 'Un, Subterranean, Maniapoto, Apologue, Mahutonga, and Putty. The A.J.C. Metropolitan entries include the majority of the horses engaged in the above-men-tioned events; and the Ep/^oni and Toorak Handicaps, where some will find the journoy more to their liking, contain the names of Subterranean, Delaware, Solution, Pink 'Un, Cross Battery. Maniapoto, Seddon, Captain Shannon, Equiform, and Mahutonga. Horeea from this country have been playing a prominent part during the past couple of seasons in making Australian turf history, and some of tho talent en gaged for next season's events should bring a little more gnat to the mill if they can be sent out fit and well. It is noticeable that nothing from the Yaldburst stable has been engaged in the big Randwick handicaps, and apparently Mr G. G. Stead* colours may not be unfurled at the gathering The \ J.C Derby field includes Boniform, Count Witte and" the Multiform — Helen Faueit filly Ellen Terry. Sir George Clifford ie represented by Glenculloch, and others engaged are Prism (Stepniak— Rainbow), Aetolal (Royal Artillery— Bellicent), Rose Noble, Canrobert, Maranui (Malatua— Grafin).
