Juno 15. — The weather continues beautifully fine. Very little frost has been experienced during the week, and the farmers ere able to plough, which for this time of yesr is exceptional. Accident. — A serious accident befel Mr Alex. M'Bride, the popular mate of the p.s. Mountaineer, on Friday morning, 7th June. He was taking out th« gangway, which came away suddenly, and he was jpr«cipita.ted into the lake, the gangway falling on top of him. Before the engines could be stopped the paddles struck the timber to which he was clinging, smashing it to splinters. The timber protected M'Bride, and probably saved his life, but one of his legs was badly broken. Being unable to uee hia injured lejr, M'Brido had the presence of mind to float on his back till a boat was lowered. Dr Douglas Attended the sufferer, and he was taken to the Frankton Hospital, where, his many friends will be pleased to hear he is making satisfactory progress. Footbaß.— The Flag match between the Queeastown and Arrow teams was played on the litter's ground on Wednesday. The match, which caused a good deal of interest, was wpn by Arrow by 22 points to 5. During the game one of the Queenstown players w.as ordered off for using abusive kagnaKe to the referee (Mr Oldfield). Choral Society.— The newly - formed Choral Society at "Queenstown held its firot practice on Tuesday evening last. Tie Pric* of Flour.— Messrs Reid and M'Dowell, proprietors of the Wakatipu Flourmills, have reduced the price of flour by 1Q« per ton. Personal.— The Rev. Horace Paclce, the new vicar of Wakatipu, with h:s wife and family* arrived in Queenstown on Friday -evening, 7th inst. On Sunday last the rev. gentleman conducted services at Arrowtown in the morning, and at Queenstown in the evening. On Wednesday evening Jast a welcome social to the Rev. Mr Packe waa held in St. Peter's Schoolroom, Queenatown, and was well attended. On Thursday evening next his Arrowtown congregation will entertain him at a social in the ■Council Chambers, Arrowtown. Miss Vera Murdoch, school teacher at Maceiown, has t>een appointed head teacher at Pembroke. Departure. — Mr A. G. Milhvard, who "has been officer in charge of the Lake Wakatipu steamer service, left Queenstown yesterday morning for Balclutha, where he has been appointed srationmaster. Mr Mjllwaxd has been in charge of the Queenstown Station for the past four years, and has -Always been constant in his attentions to the requirements of the public. As a private citizen Mr Miilward also made many friends, who will be pleased" to know "that the change means promotion. Mr Kerr, relieving officer, is at present in charge at Queenstown.
Mining. — Most of the sluicing claims jn the district have now closed down for the winter. The Arrow River S'.uieing Company, however, is still working away, and I understand the prospects are still most encouraging.
