INCREASE OF PAY. WELLINGTON, June 14. Tho Minister of Justice intends to submit to Parliament a proposal to increase the pay of tho members of the police force owing- to the increased cost of living and the increase of duties placed upon them. Under the present scale conEtables receive from 7a to 9s a day ; sergeants, from 10s to 11s 6d ; station-sergeants, from 11s 6d to 13s J. and detectives, from 9s 6d to 14s 6d. It is al£O likely that a similar proposal with reference to the pay of prison warders will be ma.de*.
