In the course of a lecture on the 12th on climates, Dr Kennedy, the Government Meteorologist for the district, showed by tables and diagrams that Napier compared more than favourably with the world-famod health resorts of the Old World, while in the colony it was second to none. He concluded *by stating that Napier's chmato was one of its most valuable assets. . At a largely-attonded meeting of civil servants it was resolved to form a branch of the New Zealand Civil Service Association. The following resolution was unanimously adopted:— "That this strongly representative meeting of civil servants of Napier respectfully urges on the Government tha necessity for passing a general superannuation scheme on the lines submitted to the last session of Parliament " A bankrupt named C. H. Kemp, who had bee" in business as a hotelkeeper, mail contractor, carrier, and sawmill owner, was on the 17th committed for trial on a charge of failing to keep proper books.
