FREE ART GALLERY.

WELLINGTON, June 12. The opening of a free art gallery at whaft has hitherto been known as the Academy of Fine Arts, in Whitmor© street, took place to-day. Pictures purchased at tho Exhibition form an important feature of the display that is made. It is proposed in future, by arrangement between fcha academy and the City Council, to keep th« gallery open free of charge on two daya a week, and on the first Sunday in each month. Forty pictures are now on the walla, and it is hoped that they will form tho neucleus of a larger collection.
