ROME, April 18.

The meeting of King Edward and KingVictor Emmanuel of Italy at Gaeta was most cordial. King Emmanuel boarded the royal yacht Victoria and Albert, and the two monarchs embraced repeatedly.

The meeting of tho two Kings is causing an explosion in the Gorman piess. Sir H. Gunpbell-Bannerman is also on the alerc.

The official view in Berlin is that tho meeting need not arouse uneasiness, since Italy realises her independenco, and is better safeguareied in the Tiiple Alliance than if she relitd wholly upon the support of Great Britain and France.

King Victor Emmanuel entertained King Edward and Queen Alexandra at luncheon on the Italian royal vaeht.

Signor Tittoni (Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs) and Sir Charles Hardinge (Permanent Under-secretary of State for Foreign Affairs) issued a communique stating that the private manner in which King Edward was meeting King Victor Emmanuel was a fresh proof of the personal sentiment and affection uniting them. The meeting was not actuated b}- political aims, yet it would produce the best effect on the intimately cordial relations of Britain and Italy. The interview was a promise and guarantee of the peace of the whole world.

The newspaper Popolo Romano, published in Rome, states- that King Edward and King Victor Emmanuel, in their recent interview, discussed the question of limitation of armaments.
