ESCAPE OF POLITICAL PISONERS. AN INFERNAL MACHINE. TOLSTOI'S SON CHARGED WITH TREASON. A GOVERNOR MURDERED. ST. PETERSBUKG, February 11. A Government messenger at Moscow was robbed of 51,000 roubles (over £8000). The robbers escaped after dropping 7000 roubles. February 12. The Constitutional Democrats and other Opposition parties have been victorious in the elections at Moscow and many other large cities. Ten political prisoners, who were confined in St. Petersburg, escaped by utilising their enamelled cups and teapots. They excavated a corridor 21ft long leading into a dwelling near by. Two of them were recaptured. An infernal machine, with the clockwork timed to produce an explosion in two hours, was found in an unlighted stove near Count and Countess Witte's bedroom. February 13. A second infernal machine was discovered at Count Witte's house. It is supposed to have been let down the chimney. A hoax is suspected, as the explosives were weak and the clockwork deficient. February 18. Advices from Baku state that the Governor of the port has been murdered. LONDON, Februaiy 17. Count Leo Tolstoi's ron. has been indicted on a charge of treason for printing papers and political pamphlets.
