"WELLINGTON, February 16. Tho Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from, the High Commissioner, dated London, February 16. — Mutton. — The market is weaker, and the tendency downward. Supplies are increasirg, and there, is a good dernaaid for prime quality, but heavy mutton 13 dull of sale. Average Canterbury sells at 4 jd ; North Island, 4|d. Lamb- — The market is dull for present requirements, and future business is in an unsettled state. Canterbury is quoted at s£d Beef. — The market is quiet at unchanged rates. I Butter. — The market is glutted and lifeless. Choice New Zealand is quoted at 101s, Argentine at 101s, Australian at 98s, Danish at 112s. Cheese. — The market is firm, with an upward tendency. Average *rice : New Zealand manufacture, 66a per cwt. , Hemp.— The market is quiet but steady. I
Good fair grade on spot. £39 10s. and AprilJune shipments, £38, fair current Manila, on spot, £41.
