AN INTERESTING DISCOVERY,

NEW PLYMOUTH, February 12. What appears to be an imuportant discovery of clay was made on a Smart road farm about three miles from New Plj.-« mouth. A specimen analysed by Professoxi MacLaurua (Government analyst) contains; 39.4- per cent, silina ,and 33.8 per cent* alumina; and Professor MacLaurin re* ports :— " Clay of excellent quality. Witht the exception ol the iron, which is slightly, high (1.5 per cent.), its composition is cquai to that of the best koolins. If found ia quantity it should prove of great value for pottery purposes." A large soarn has bceil; exposed, and similar clay has been found a cons'derable distance away.
