A politician was addressing a meeting afc which there were present a strongly an? tagonistio element. The orator had just won the attention of the audience, when there suddenly emanated from the gallery a doleful and prolonged "moo." This was followed by a "moo" pitched in a higher key, issuing from the body of the hall. The resulting merriment interrupted tha speaker, and he generously permitted tho audience to enjoy tho incident. When the laughter had subsided, he stepped to the edge of the platform, softened .his voice, and threw his hearers into fresh mirth by saying: — "A cow has become separated from ita mother. Will the stewards kindly relieve tho distressed parent by restoring her child?"
