A NATURALISTS DISCOVERIES ON STEWART ISLAND.
INVERCARGILL, February 14. Dr L. Cockayne, of Christchurch, who is engaged in writing a book on biology, has just returned from a five-weekt>' stay in Stewart Island. He told a Southland Times reporter that he had discovered 80 unrecorded species of plante, bringing the total species for the island to 450. Dr Cockayne considers that the island has a great future as a tourist resort, and that steps should be taken as soon as possible for the preservation of the magnificent forests on the shores of Port Pegasus and William and Paterson's Inlet
A well-known importer of jewellery and diamonds in Sydney has reported the loss of valuable diamonds. Their disappearance is a mystery. A parcel which is missing contained about 70 diamonds, 1 valued at £700,
