AUCKLAND TOPICS.

By Taihoa.

February 19. The hurdle horse Khama has been taken in hand again after a long spell. Dogger Bank, a half-brother to the wellperformed Aka Aka, does not look like emulating the doings of his relative. He was given a chance at the Papakura meeting, but failed twice. The Australian-bred horse Ironmould was blistered the other day, and will be taken 'in hand again in a month or so after a lengthy spell. The gelding will probably be tried over the fences in the winter. Landlock, whose erratic running has puzzled not a few from time to time, is being given his first lessons over the schooling fences, and is shaping very well. The Flintlock gelding is one that should make a good performer over the sticks. Gladstone, who went amiss shorty before the A.R.C. summer meeting, appears to have made a satisfactory recovery, but I understand the son of Seat-on Delaval will not be raced again this season. The Auckland-owned horse Master Delaval is given a decided chance of earning winning distinction in the Wanganui Cup with 7.13 on his back. AlthOl^ti 1 Pafitutu ran disappointingly in the last two or three races, Aucklanders who attended the Egmont meeting say thet he will probably be seen to better advantage before long. The owner of Scotty is said to have come to the conclusion th"at the son of St. Leger has lost some of his dash on the flat, and he is to be given a trial over the small sticks after the A.R.C. autumn meeting. Since their ejection from the A.R C. course, some of the Auckland bookmakers have plied their calling from private property, just over the wall at the back of the course. Evidently they have found the business of sufficient volume to cause them to be anxious to remain there, as when the land was put up for sale a day or two ago one of their number bought several sections. Acting on the advice of I. Earnshaw, who has Apologue in hand, Mr Cleland scratched the son of Phoebus Apollo for the Australian Cup. The Auckland-owned horse will probably be given a run at Randwiek in April, but it is not expected that he will be heard of to advantage until later in the year.
