Social. — Miss Efigleton, schoolmistress at Knapdale, was entertained by her Otama friends at a social in the hall here on the occasion of- her leaving, to be head teacher at Benio School, Mr R. Fraser, on behalf of the others, presented her with a gold brooch as a mark of esteemi and » souvenir of her friends in Otama. The evening) was spent in singing- and dancing, and proved very enjoya-bfe-. General.— The school reopened after the
holidays, T>ut I regret to say that the attendance is not what it should be, and parents would do well to bear in mind that if the average attendance falls below 40 the mistress must leave — a state of things to be regretted.— Miss- Jessie M'Eachern. fifth daughter of Mrs M'isiacheru, of Mcrven House, was married to Mr William Smith on Wednesday last at Mrs M*e's residence in Otama, in the presence of a laa-ge number of relations and friends. In the evening Mi 3 M'Eachern entertained a large party of friends in the hall, when a veTy enjoyable time was spent. Mia Smith was the recipient of many handsome and costly presents.
