THE PRESIDENT AND THE GREAT CORPORATIONS. NEW YORK, February 8. There are indications that President Roosevelt has brought the great corporations to terms regarding the necessity for reform and the elimination of cut-throat methods. MELBOURNE, February 9. The Age states that trouble has arisen between the Standard Oil Trust and the Customs Department. The Federal law requires oil cases to be marked " 150 per centum fire test," and that the oil fumes muet stand lieat up to ISOdeg Fahrenheit before they ignite. This provision the trust eeeks to defy. The newspaper states that certain defectively-marked shipments, which have been made in deliberate defiance of the Federal law, will not be allowed to land until the^r aie brought into conformity with t" 1 * <£ inlands of the Legislature.
