First Dat — Thursday, February 7.
The Gisborne Racing Club's summer meeting commenced to-day in fine weather. The following are the results : —
FLYING HANDICAP.— Gatenby, 6.7, 1; Contender, 8.12, 2; Gladsmuir, 7.5, 3. Also started: Gaiety and Goldfield. Won by a lergth and a-half. Time, lmin 16 l-ssec. Dividend, £4 17s.
MAIDEN SCURRY. — Hinetitamat* 1, Ruanui 2, Amusement 3. There were 11 other starters. A most exciting finish. Time, 51 l-ssec. Dividends, £3 17s and £4 2s.
HANDICAP HURDLES.— Cinque, 9.1, 1; iMorpeth, 9.9, 2; Inspan, 10.10, 3. Theße were the only starters. Won by three lengths. Dividend, £3 lls.
HACK FLAT HANDICAP.— Terahui, 6.12, 1; Trent, 8.2, 2; Goldfield, 8.13, 3. Also started : Silver Lead, Stromness, Martyrfeld't, Water o' Milk, Oakburn, Grey Goose, Lady Rohina, Mrs Crawley, and Flag. Won by p. nose. Time, lmin 17sec. Dividends, £2 3s and £2 14s.
SUMMER HANDICAP— Freeland, 7.3, 1; Uenuku. 78, 2 ; Oasis, 7.2, 3. Also started : BLack Reynard, Lady Warwick, Melton Hall. Won by a length and a-half. Time, 2min 12sec. Dividends, £4 4s and 16s.
COUNTY STKES.— Hinetitamata, 6.12, 1; Marangai, 8.13, 2; Gatenby, 6.13, 3. Also started : Faro, SariUa, Linkless, Hineta.pa-.i-riki, Bruiser. Won by a length. Time, lmm 31sec. Dividends, £15 8s and 138.
FIRST WELTER HANDICAP.— Teuku, 8.10, 1; Lord Rosebery, 8.9, 2; Hauiii, 8.2, 3. Also started : Te Arai, Mellon Hall, Waiheke, Lee-Enfield, and Reay. Won by a nose. Time, lmin 46 l-ssec\ Dividends, £Z 13s and £1 11s.
PARK STAKES.— Lady Warwick, 8.2, I; Immolation, 8.11, 2; Uenuku, 7.10. 3. Also started: Reservoir, Hiki, Alluvial. Won easily. Time, lmin 31sec. Dividends, £3 7s and 17s.
Second Dat — Friday, February 8.
The second day of the Gisborne Racing Club's "summer meeting was held to-day in fine weather. The following are the results:
COUNTY STAKES. One mile.— TeTahui, 7.6, 1; Gladsmuir, 7.10, 2; Hinetitamata, 8.1, and Reay, 6.7, dead-heat for third place. Also started: SariUa, Bruiser. Spun Yarn, Hauiti. Won by a length. Time, lmin 44sec. Dividends, £3 9s and £i 19s.
MAIDEN SCURRY. Five furlongs.—Ruanui, 9.0, and Amusement, 8.7, dead heat; San Cruz, 7.5, 3. Also 6tarted : Blue River, Bandsmanj Lady Ainslie, Glenafric, Ramoana, Joker, Matiti. Amusement got a big advantage at the start, but there was a splendid finish. Time, lmin 4 3-ssec. Dividends, £7 4s and £1 17s.
HANDICAP HURDLES. One mile and three-quarters.— Morpeth, 9.10, 1 ; Faro, 11.3, 2; Taniwha, 9.4, 3. Also started; Cinque, who fell. Won by two lengths. Time, 3min 18 3-ssec. Dividend, £4 11s.
ELECTRIC HANDICAP. Five furlongs.— Marangai, 8.9, 1 ; Contender, 9.0, 2 ; Gladgmuir, 7.9, 3. Also started: Arai. Te Ur«, Creeping Jane. Won by a length. Time, lmin 2 3-ssec. Dividend, £2 16s. SECOND HACK FLAT. Seven furlongs.— Lady Rohina, 7.4, 1 ; Water o' Milk, 8.3. 2 ; Flag, 7.4, 3. Also started: Ramoana. Won easily by two lengths. Thirteen horses were scratched. Time, lmin 31 2-ssec. Dividend, £6 12s. GRAND STAND HANDICAP. One mile and a distance. — Black Reynard. 9.0, 1 ; Reservoir, 7.4, 2; Immolation, 8.4, 3. Also started: Freeland, Lady Warkick, and Oasis. Won by a length. Time, 2min 1 3-ssec. Dividends, £2 Is and JEI 13s. SECOND WELTER HANDICAP. Seven furlongs. Tearai, 8.12, 1; Hiki, 9.4, 2; Stromness, 8.12, 3. Also started; Lord Rosebery Glenafric, Dreamstar. Won by a length. Time, lmin 30 3-ssec. Dividends, £1 13» and £2 4s. FINAL HANDICAP. Seven furlongs.— Uenuku, 7.13, 1 ; Gatenby, 7.7, 2 ; Trent, 7.7. 3. Also started: Ladylike and Creeping Jane. ' Won easily by a length. Time, lmin 30 2-saec. Dividend, £2 Ba. An (inquiry was held concerning the use of bad and threatening language "by a jockey now under probation in connection with a like offence, and it was resolved to suspend his license for six months. The amount put through the totalisator for the two days was £11,563, against £9594 last year.
