CATLIN'S- TAHAKOPA RAILWAY LEAGUE.

The following report date.d February 4, has been received by the Secretary of the Catlins-Tahakopa Railway League from Mr Josoph Gwyn, of Houipapa : — Dear Sir,— Since my last report the holidays have come and gone, and, as usiial, there was about a fortnight vi which very little was don-e, but for some time now the work has been ill full swing again. The big rock cutting, wbicj} was heavy work, has been finished some time now, but there is still some work to do about there in making up banks" that have subsided. There is now only on© cutting unfinished between Catlin's River Station and the bridge at Houipapa Work on the bridge has gone on steadily all along, and by the time of your meeting the piles will be all driven, there being only three io drive now, while a fair amount of other work ia also done. The whole, or nearly all, of the steel work is also on the ground. Work in the station yard goes on apace, but there is a good deal yet to do on account of road deviations. Four drays, beside handcart, are now employed. During the month past a start has been made (at the Catlin's River Sta-hon) at permanent leveling for plate-laying, as far as the rock cutting at least, so that the engine and crusher may be got along to its »vt«, And crushing may be gone on with very soon. One very wise precaution of the engineer in charge has been to preserve as much, good stone as possible for the crusher all along the line, consequently there are large stacks of stone ready to be broken up for the crusher, while some of it is already s pal led. This will materially assist the pace of crushing, when once the crusher arrives and is set up. The number of 18-en remains about the same— namely, about 60.
