DESTRUCTIVE CYCLONE.
SERIOUS LOSS OF LIFE. HAVANA, October 19. A cyclone in Cuba tlid great damage, many persons being killed. The American iroops were forced to abandon their camp at Columbia. t October 22. The- cyclone damaged the Cuban crops lo the extent of £2,000,000. NEW YOKK, October 20. Reports from Havana state that the cyclone w\ts> the woi>t on record. Buildings were shaken as if an earthquake had been experienced, and many hou?€6 in the poorer quarter collapsed. Ninety-four natives and 16 foreign residents Vere killed, arxl the number of fatalities wouid have been greater but for the timely warning which the people had of the approach of the storm. The warning enabled them to gain shelter. The shipping in Havana. Harbour suffered severely, no fewer than. 35 lighters being destroyed. The American cruiser Brooklyn became etranded, but was refloated though somewhat damaged. Extensive damage was done to the crops at Penadclrio.
