CANTERBURY.
A meeting of the Tcmuleton branch took place on the Ist inst. There was a good attendance, and the president, who was in the chair, gave a sketch of the work done at the late conference. He considered that the conference had been t.he best he had attended, and spoke appreciatively of the courtesy received by members from Ministers and members of Parliament. After discussing the Land Bill, the following resolution was passed — "That this meeting protests against tho proposed renewal lease, and considers that the tenant under the Land for Settlements Act should be given the opportunity of acquiring the freehold." Several new members were" elected.
A meeting of the Eilcemere branch was held on fhe 4th inst., Mr T. B. Howson (president) in the chair. The Land Bill was rliscus=ed at some length, after which the following- motion, moved by Mr W. M'Millan and seconded by MrE. Lochhead, was carried — "That this meeting strongly protests against the Land Act Amendment Bill now before Parliament, and is astonkhed that the Minister should have introduced a measure «o inimica.l to the settlers upon the land, and against tho weight of evidence on the Land Commission." It was decided that copies of the resolution should be forwarded to Messrs -Khodes. Lewis, and Hardy, members of tho House of Representatives
