THE F ROZEN MEAT TRADE.
LIABILITY OF SHIPPING COMPANIES. LONDON, August 13. The action brought by Nelson and Sons against the Newson. Line to recover damages for breach of contract in connection with a cargo of frozen meat on board the Highland Chief has been concluded. The evidence was to the effect that tho temperature of the refrigerating chambers on the vessel was not kept down to 25 degrees, and thus a cargo of River Plate meat was seriously damaged. The jury awarded Nelson and Sons £23,900 damages. The questions of law which arose having been dealt with, Mr Justice Bray, of the King's Bench Division of the High Court, gave judgment for the whole of the amount assessed by the jury. A stay of execution was granted in view of an appeal. The defendants denied liability on insurable goods, and claimed that they were nofc liable in any event beyond the net invoice price. Both points were overruled. *
