THE CHRISTCHURCH MARKET.
CHRISTCHURCH, August 17. There have been a few lots of wheat offering in the local markets during the week, but as sellers are generally asking extreme prices millers and merchants have declined to operate, and no fresh business has resulted. The absence of inquiries for wheat from the North Island show that large supplies must have been secured, probably in the south earlier in the season. Local miller 3 complain of the limited outlet for flour, and their stocks of wheat are not yet exhausted. There is an easier tone in the oat market, a« at prices ruling business cannot be done in competition with the cheaper supplies available in the south. The wet weather of the past week has caused chaff to b© firmer, and sellers are asking prices above quotations.
