RINDON.

August 13. — Th.c annual bachelors' ball was held in the Tahora. Schoolhouse on the Srd inst., an 3, as usual, passed off very successfully. - The night was rather unpleasant, but notwithstanding there was a large number presecft-. The Chairman (Mr Isbister), in a few brief remarks, opened the proceedings, which were commenced by the grand march, in which a large number participated. Dancing was commenced at 8.30, and was kept up with vigour till " the wee srua 1 'oors ayont the twal." During the evening refreshments were handed round at intervals and were done ample justice to. Songs were rendered during th • evening by. Messrs Brady, Sullivan. M'Donald, Isbister. »J(id Miss X. Booth, and recitations were given by Miss A. Harrison. Mrs J. Rutherford, and Messrs Raggit and Smith, and a very amusing diret was given by Messrs Sullivan and Brady. The music for the evening was supplied by ilr Gray, and was all that could be desired, and Mr Sullivan acted as M.C. in his usual efficient manner. At intervals during the proceedings graphophone selections were given by Messrs Reggit and Sullivan, and were much appreciated. At the conclusion a few congratulatory remarks were made by the chairman, and, after votes of thanks had been accorded to the chairman, musician, M.C, and all who had assisted to make the proceedings a success, the meeting was terminated by the singing of "Auld lang syne." . Weather —The weather we have experienced here late'y has been very changeable. Stock v > this way arc looking very well, aud ploughing is in full swing. Our roads are in very KoSd order for the time of year, and a contract has just been completed by Marwick and Stevenson for metalling a portion of the Station road.
