MANAWATU v. TARANAKI. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 9.

The representative match TaTanaki v. Manawatu was played here to-day in fine weather and on a good ground. The game was a very one-sided one on account of the. inferiority of portions of the Manawatu back division. The forwards were very evenly matched, Manawatu probably having more dash, but the bearl-breaking kicks of Hardgreaves (the Taranaki full back) and lack of support from their back division ran the Manawatu forwards off their feet. The home backs' combined rushes, headed by Hunter, Cameron, Ward, Abbott, and Dive, were irresistible, Winiata and Stalker being the only Manawatu backs able to stand up. After Winiata's retirement in the second spell the visitors went completely to pieces, the score being run up to 47 points to 3, of which 31 points were scored in the second spell. Tries were scored by Syan, Cameron (A), Dive (3), Abbott (2), "Hunter, and Loveridge. Goals were kicked by Ward, Hardgreaves (4), Cameron, and Abbott. Ward kicked a splendid penalty goal for Manawatu.
