* OTAGO; , : I" A meeting of the Dunback branch „ was held on the 11th inst. There was a good, attendance of members, and the President (Mr T. M'Lay) occupied the chair*. The ! minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and remits from the Provincial Executive, bearing on the question of the pooling of orders for goods required ! by farmers, were received and discussed. | .The Chairman reported what he had done, . ; at the recent conference in connection witß \ the suggested abolition of •the 1, per ■ drawback on wool. The question --would ' I be further considered at the next .meeting, 1 i, of delegates. Mr M'Lay also referred *othe success /that had attended the Farmers'. < Mutual -Firef-fiasurance scheme. The qnestion of the annual payable by- mfembers was- then discussed, and_it was unanimously decided to recommend that in future the annual subscription be levied on a sliding scale ranging from 5s to 20s per member, computed on R property vahie basis. Speaking. at the meeting held at Middlemarch for the re-establishment of the local branch of the union, Mr W. D. Mason notified that he could subscribe to. the third and fifth planks of the union's platform. He contended that the downfall of the union, which he claimed had already taken place, had occurred through the union interfering with politics, and said that such was not the province" of the union. He further- declared that the benefits recounted by Mr Pram as* being the outcome of the efforts of the Farmers*
