Some slight improvement lias taken place under a veterinary surgeon, but both the veterinary and the trainer are doubtful whether the horse will be able to fulfil his spring meeting engagements. August 10. The handicapper for the Victorian Amateur Turf Club explains that the club officials furnished him with a pedigree of the Gippsland horse Chivalry. He has now amended the New Zealander's weight to 8.11. The owner contend* that the weight cannot be altered., but will abide by the committee's decision, although he considers 8.11 more than his horse is entitled to. August 13. 1 Corinthus broke his back when he fell in the Caulfield Grand National Steeplechase, and had to be destroyed. Several others, including Bellis, were slightly injured.
