PORTOBELLO.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, 31st July, a pleasing function took place at the Portobello Sotool on Olb occasion of Mies Or»wley's departure to take up a position in the Albany Street School. Notwithstanding the wretched weather on that afternoon, the rain sometimes pouring in torrents, a goodly number of parents and others assembled to wish Miss Orawley good-bye and to express their regret at her departure. The School Committee was represented by Mr D. D. Seaton (chairman), and Messrs Dickson, Leslie, and Winton. Amonst those present were Mr Crawley, Miss Crawley, and the late head master (Mr Barton). Eulogistic speeches in honour of the departing teacher were made by the Chairmen, the members of School Committee, Mr Fergus (the present head master), and Mr Barton, each and all of these gentlemen testifying to the ability with which Miss Crawley had performed her duty, and to the fact that she had gained not only the esteem but the love of her pupils. The chairman then presented her with a handsome little gold watch and a book as a slight token of the respect and affection in which she was held by the children of the school, of which she had been mistress for nearly three years. On behalf of his daughter, Mr Crawley feelingly returned thanks for all the kind remarks made about her, and for the handsome present she had received. The company and children weTe then regaled with afternoon tea of a substantial kind, after which the meeting dispersed, and a most pleagant time fcr all concerned came to an end?
