DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE.
The share market opened quietly on Monday morning, and although quoting was fairly general, nothing further transpired from the two call-overs than the recording of two txai'sactions, both in investment stocks. Of individual stocks, Golden Beds displayed a noticeable firming, buyers quoting stt 13s id and sellers at 15s. Golden Runs had buyers a-t 14s. and sellers at 16s 6d. Mactertons had moderate notice en a wide market, and an inquiry for New Alpine Consols at 7s Cd failed to meet with response. Inquiries were nude for Mystery Flats at 28s and for Pactolus»es at 38s, but without result. In investment stocks a sale of New Zealand Coal and Oil shares took place at 2s, while New Zealand Paper Mills furnished a transaction at 22a 3d. The Molyneux River has now reached the 6ft above normal mark at Alexandra, but has been falling very slowly indeed. A fall of about another 2ft should pee the gorge diodges at work, but owing to the extreme lateness of the season it is hardly likely that the dredges will be able to put in more than a very few weeks' work. That will, however be quite sufficient to permit of enough gold being obtained to tide the companies so siUtted over tbe period which will elapse before the fo'lowing season arrive-?. Returns for the past week show a. further improvement ils compared with the previous week's. The M?&terton dredge heads the list with 112oz odd for slight' y over a full week's work. The Master+on dredge has, as the last few returns will show, squared up the face and worked up the poor ground. and is now operating on good ground adjoining the Mystery Flat boundary Good solid returns can be expec+ed from '.he Ma&ierton dredge for the next 12 months at least Other returns figuring largely on the h«t for last week are the Go'dcn Treasure v ith 82oz, the Otago No. 2 with 70oz, the Golden Bed with 530z and the Mystery Flat with 520z. The Mystery Flat dredge is obtaining the beet gold from about two chains adjoining the Masterton claim bonndarv, and the probability is that she h?s now struck the Maj»terton Company's lead. The West Coast total shows just a slight faliing off as compared with the previous week, but nevertheless t'hore are sorce good yields, such as those from the two Pactolus machines, which aie remarkably consistent m their weekly returns .
