The weather was fine, and the water smooth. There was an enormous attendance. The betting was : 5 to 4 against Kemp and 2 to 1 against Beach. The course was about a mile and a-nalf. Prom a good start Beach first went in pursuit of Green, but the latter maintained th« advantage, showing surprising vigour, and was not displaced till Tennyson was reached. Here Kemp, who had steadilyimproved his position, went to the front, with Beach filling third position. Tho latter got into second position soon afterwards, and then i^aycock, spurtingbrilliantly, went up second off the gasworks, and, going strongly, had overlapped Kemp at Putney. The wash from a launch interfered with Laycock, but despite this it took Kemp all he couW d« to keep in front to the finish. Kemp won by half a length, and Beach was taae lengths behind Laycock. Then followed Pearce, Reynolds, Rush, and Green in that order. Time, Bmin 40sec. . ■■
Six crews 6tarted in the Ladies' Double Championship, which was finely contested from, start to finish. The race was won by Mesdames Woodbridge and Hyde, and covered a mile and a-half course. Time, 12min 32sec.
