THE AUCKLAND VISIT TO SYDNEY.

SYDNEY, July 5.

It has been definitely decided that the Glebe team will play the Auckland footballers on the 14th inst., and that South Sydney will meet the visitors in an extra match on the 18th inst.

The Victoria arrived this morning after a very rough trip. She struck a galo immediately after she left; Auck'and, and stormy conditions and a high sea continued till reaching Sydney. Many of the Auckland City Club footballers suffered severely from sea-sickness, pne or two being unable to ea-t a single meal ; otherwise they are in good health, though not in the beet of buckle after the enforced fasting and knocking about they received. They are hopeful of giving a good account of themselves in their opening match to-day. The weather in Sydney is fine and bracing.

The match between the Auckland City Club's team and Newtown was played today in fine weather. There were about 17,000 spectators present. A. Nicholson. Harris, Fraser, Todd, and Magee stood out of the Auckland team. Auckland won the toss, and played with a fresh westerly wind behind them in the first spell. Play was fairly even for the greater part of the first half, with occasional flashes by the visitors which took the local men all their time to check. The visitors were excellent in forward play, but were deficient in the back division if Smith be excepted. Smith {jot in some fine runs. A few minutes before half time Newtown were being hard preeesd, and the Auckland forwards were playing a dashing 1 game. Plants secured the ball from the pack and darted over the line, Young converting. Before the whistle went the visitors were running over the Newtown forwards. Seeling fell over die line, but Nicholson failed to add the extra points. Auckland, 8 points; Newtown, nil. In the second spell Nowtown made the play willing, and, almost immediately after the commencement, scored off a brilliant run by Russell, who beat the whole of the opposing side. Hay kicked a goal. The Aucklanders were hotly pressed, G. Tvler and Woods twice getting them out of difficulties. After a long period of uninteresting play Smith gave a fine exhibition of speed, for whioh he was cheered, and Lusombe only shoved him into touoh as a try was imminent. Near the call of time a good piece of passing enable Little to score a try, but Inagee's kick was a poor one. Tho game thus ended: — Auckland, 11 point& ; Newtown. 5 points.
