NEW ZEALAND METROPOLITAN TROTTING CLUB.
The annual general meeting of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club was held last week, when there waa a large attendance, the club room being filled to excess. The president, the Hon. C. Louisson, occupied the chair. The report was adopted. It read as follows: —
Your committee has pleasure in placing before members the annual balance sheet for 1905-6. At the beginning of the year we started with « debit cash balance of £68 Bs, and now we show a credit of £960 18s 7d. During the same period the sum of £800 has been spent on plant and permanent improvements. The result of the year's 'operations must b« considered satisfactory, considering that our November meeting was carried out under very uupropitious weather conditions. The expenditure of the club up to the present in providing proper accommodation for the comfort of our patrons and in making tracks and conveniences for owners and trainers totals no less a sum than £12,126, and the results, as submitted in the balance sheet, ciearly show that our efforts have been appreciated. As our improvements are erected on leasehold property-, and as the club might at any time have to meet unexpected fmanoifl demands, in consequence of unfavourable weather conditions at any of our fixtures, your committee is strongly of opinion that a reserve fund should be created. A sum of £500 has already been set apart for that purpose, and yo\ir committee recommends that a further sum of £600 should now be transferred to that account, and that other sums should be added from time to time as the club's finances permit. The club has sustained a very serious loss in. the death of your late president. Mr G. H. M'Haffie. Mr M'Haffie took a. real and deep interest in the welfare of the club, and spent a great amount of energy and time in the interest of the sport, and did much during the many years he was associated with trotting in advancing it in every way. He was in every sense «. true sportsman. The balance ah set, showing a credit balance of £360 189 7d on the year' 3 working, was adopted. Amongst tho chief items of revenue were.— Nominations £1666, acceptances £1197, members' subscriptions £199, totalisator £9386, gates £1912, and sundries, making a total of £15,519. On the expenditure side the largest items were-— Stakes £9890, Government tax £1486, rent £145. salaues, etc., £852, plant £232, s>nd gioimcl improvements £244. ' i A motion that the meeting be adourned pending further details of totalisator figures, aa asked for by a member, being provided The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Hon. C. Louisson, M.L.C. ; president, Mr G. Paylii'g. auditor, Mr <-t . E. Way; treasurer, Mr T. Marr; stewaras-liesn-s G. Payhug, J. H«ywwd, V. Horns, J Tre!e*v«n, J. S. Slade, G. B. Ritchie, T. Marr, J. S. It was resolved, to allocate, totalizator fractions to the purchase of a new totalisator. A motion of condolence to the relatives of the late Premier was carried.
