NAPIER, June 19. The Supreme Court sessions opened to* day before the Chief Justice, who expressed regret that he could not congratulate the district on the diminution of crime. H& Honor referred to tho evidence of lack of parental control of girls, who were allowed to go about as they pleased. WllEam John Goldsmith and Tai Punoa pleaded "Guilty" to indecent assault, and James Madden entered a similar plea in regard to a charge of assault. All were remanded for eentemw. Terence Patrick O'Brien was found "Not guUty" of breaking and entering at "Wairoa. ' Roberta Morgan pleaded "(Juiltv" to breakine and enter* ing at Kaikora, and was remanded for scm> tence. J. W. Inslay pleaded " Guiljy " to various nets of petty )i-cny at Npapaeruru, and was remap !<'d for sentence. Timothy Ccegrove was <ouml "Guilty" of assault on a girl under tho a n e of 16 years, and was also remanded for sentence. Juno 2}. At the Supreme Court to-day John William Inslay, who pleaded " Guilty " to theft, was admitted to 12 months' probation, and ordered to pay £10 co=t3. Terence Patrick O'Brien, for failing to comply with the terms of probation, had his term extended to three months. George Moor© ' was found guilty of an aggravated assault, and was r^mandod for sentence. W. J» Cast!e3 was ncqultted on a charge of assault* (Jon. At the Supreme Court sentences were passed as follow:— Wm. Goldsmith, indecent assault, 12 months' probation, and to remain home at nights after 7 o'clock for nine months; Tai Punoa, ditto, three years imprisonment; James Madden, assault, six months; Robert Morgan, theft, six months ; George Moore, assault, six months. James M"Kay pleaded " Guilty" to 13 charges of theft, and was remanded for sentence. Thomas M'Cusker was convicted of conspiring to defeat tho ends of justice, and was ordered to pay a fine of £21. NEW PLYMOUTH, June 19. The Supreme Court opened to-day before Mr Justice Edwards. James Ogilvie, 17 years, charged with the theft of letters containing money while employed in tho Post Office at Hawera, pleaded " Guilty." Probation was refused, and prisoner was sentenced to 12 months' hard labour. Juno 20. At the Supreme Court, on tho second trial on a charge of arson against Daniel. M'Gowie. the jury again di-sagrecd. Counsel for the defence applied for a chango of venue. Mr Justice Edwards ordered at new trial at the next Wanganui session.
