THE AUSTRALIAN DISPUTE.
SYDNEY, June 19. Sir W. J. Lyne has explained that two members of the Melbourne Club told him that the club would do almost anything to bring about a settlement, but it must take place within four days. The Cricket AssoI ciation. after discussion, resolved that any proposition from the Melbourne Club must bo for -varded through the Crickefc Association. June 22. There is a more hopeful outlook in connection with the cricket trouble. The governing bodres in all the States, including the Melbourne Club, express themselves as desirous of arriving at a settlement in timo to secure the visit of an English team. One of the obstacles in the way of united action has been the refusal of the South Australian Association to join the Board of Control over the question of finance, but negotiations in the matter are now TVroceeding. MELBOURNE, June 19. Major Wardill states that the Melbourne Club to-day considered the action of the New South Wales Association with regard io the reinstatement of players, but no-
thing can be done towards bringing matters to a satisfactory issue. Sir W. J. Lyne wired suggesting that the Melbourne Club should approach the Victorian Association with a view to renewing, through that body, negotiations with the New South Wales Association, but Major Wardill declared that that was impossible, as the Melbourne Club and other clubs which had joined, forming the Victorian Cricket League, no longer recognised the association as a governing body of cricket in Victoria. The deadlock therefore continues.
