CANTERBURY
At the Magistrato's Court. Ashburron. on the 22nd, Capiain Wray, S.M., fined two men 40s each for boincf on premises when the police made a slygrog raid. E. P. March, licensee of the Chertsey Hotel, was fined £5 and coats for Sunday trading. The licenso was not endorsed, the magistrate considering that the defendant had been persuaded to supply drink against his better judgment. A charge of exposing liquor for sale was dismissed. A nine-roomed house, belonging to Mr Robert Gillingham, of Fair lie, was destroyed by fire last night, together with all its contents. It is ea-id to have occurred tbiough the children getting fire to the window curtains. Insurances on honfie. and furniture total £420 with the Farmers* Cooperative.
