June 25.—Some very fine weather was experienced last week r and on the 20th and 21st the days were as- warm as though it h** been midsummer instead of the very opposite* Because of Mr Seddon's fuueraL on ike 21et, the school wa* closed, and quite a number ojE ■ children, with tieir parents! spent », glorious holiday on- the beach. WaV fine,, and there Was a good turn out, some brethren from the Rose of Palmexstou Lodge being present and about 50 ?ouples occupying the flooT. The hall was tastefulCy- «fecor«t«i with, flags and evergreens, and. looked: quits, festive for the occasion. The Messrs Souneae supplied the music,, and titeir playing wasmroch enjoyed. Bear. "Ward, O'Halloran. and Maxwell acted as* ILC.'s. and the catering ■ was in the capable hands of Bio. W. Williams. Accident—A. nasty accident happened to Miss Enrily Thompson last Tuesday. She was having a. lift in a- butcher's- cart, and in * coming' out of Mr Gilmore's entrance, near the Bendigo, oue of fhe wheels of 1 the cart got into a deep watertable, and the vehicle turned over Mis-& Thompson, wjis thrown out, and her ankle catching against some part cf the caTt, the flesh was torn off right to the bone. Dr Hislop was soon in attendance, but it will be a long while before the aiikle> gets all right again, as it was badly bruised, and some of the tissues are torn. Medical.—Dr Hislop ha* decided to let his assistant reside in Waikouarti in future, and ii making arrangements accordingly. It is suggested /hat the assistant (Dr Collier)should visit Seaclift Merton* and district o.n certain days-, but Dr Hislop will still continue to- visit here on liis usual days. The change will he muck appreciated! by those who hava been so lo.ng agitating for a. resident doctor. Football.— Ths third matei agaiwafc, the 3Palmerston. Club was played off on the Kecrea- ' tion Ground en.' Saturday afternoon. The ground was in good order, and there was more than the average number of spectators- j»*e- , sent, who took: ft keen interest in Hie strong rivalry between the two clubs". l*e result was another >win for PaJmeTston, the scoresbairg 9 points to^J. M'Lay scored a try for the home team, and for the visitors Jackson scored a try and J. Pagan kicked a penaltygoal and one from a mark. One of the local players, A. Aitcheson. was '.'laid- out," and D-. Porteous was ordered off the ground by the referee, and more wiil likely be heard of this later on. Sir Ed. Aitcheson, an onlooker, noticing his- brother being "laid out," got excited, and unfortunately struck Porteous, and it Is possible his action may result in Sk court case. Mr W. Wilson gave every satisfaction as referee. This- is the fourth flag, match that the locs.l club has playedl, and! lost, this season. Toe club plays Shag Point at Waikouadti next Saturday.
