SHOOTING AFFRAY AT KAITANGATA.

j A PEA K112J5 AS ARBITER IN A . QUARREL. A sensational incident occurred at Eaiiaugata on Thursday eveninjj daring an altercation between two neighbours. At -about 8.3D p.m. on the day named WHliam Thompson, a miner, called at the house of William Fibfees, another miner, and on tie two men meeting Thompson became so *tm«iye *hat Fibbes ejected him from the promises. Thompson, -wh« lived about 200 yards away, thereupon disappeared, but shortly afterwards" returned, and it is alleged that on the second occasion he brought with him a pea rifle. On arrival at Fibbes's gate, Thompson called <ont to Fibbes to come Outside, and he woidd <lo for him. Fibbes, it is stated, thereupon went out, and directly afterwards a firearm was -discharged, tut so far there is nothing to show tfca* deliberate aim w«s taken at Fibbes. Thompson was brought to Diniedin on Satui-day, atid is now in tnisfcody awaiting the hearing of a charge of shooting with intent.
