DRAUGHTS ITEMS.
A Missing Coat. — At the conclusion oi the Town v. Country match a prominent town, player found that his overcoat had disappeared, and another one was left in its -> stead. If the gentleman who made the mistake will communicate with us we can arrange for an exchange. The town player will be particularly pleased. Want of Space. — Owing to want of spaa several matters of interest have to be held over again this week.
Mr Jas. Gardiner at Gore.— Our Gore correspondent writes: — We had ft flying visit from Mr Gardiner, the champion draughts player, on the 12th. Unfortunately, we only had about one hour's notice of his coming, so could only get ten boards going. However, we had a, splendid evening* with him. He played 20 games, winning 11, and drawing 9. Mr Walter M'Kinna played three, drawing the lot.
The Bermonclsey D.C. gave the famous London Wanderers a. tremendous "licking" on the 22nd March, with 12 players a-side, th* score being 14. wins to nil and 6 draws.
An outbreak of typhoid fever has occurred at Kaponga. A number of people are down with it, seven or eight victims being in the Hawera Hospitau
