CONTROL OF CRICKET.

A SUGGESTION BY THE M.C.O. , MELBOURNE, June 13. 4 The committee of the Melbourne Cricket Club has passed a resolution recognising that the Marylebone Cricket Club will not ■»and a, team unless«it is invited by all the cricketing bodies of Australia. It suggests that the composition of tho Board of Control be left in abeyance until the conclusion

of th« cricket season, and that all cricket bodies unite to invite a team, and hold a - conference in May of next year to decide ' the constitution of the Board of Control.

SYDNEY, June 12. The trustees of the Sydney Cricket' Ground, on the motion of Mr Trickett, decided to make every effort to terminate the present deadlock, and also to endeavour to secure a visit of a British team by combined action, and not by the effort of a single club.

The Secretary of the Cricket Association, replying to M.A. Noble, points out that the Board of Control represents cricket interests* in Australia, and evidenced the fact that with the exception of South Australia all the governing bodies of cricket are represented thereon. Mr Noble himself was so far_ recognising its control of international "cricket, as to assist in electing tho New South Wales 'representative. Since the inception of the association no cricket has been played without the consent of the association. The players at the time of signing the agreement with the Melbourne Club were aware tliat the board would refuse to recognise an English' team unless it came out at the invitation of the board, and that they would be disqualified if they played against the team. The Secretary asks if tho afrropment was -o olear and above board •.•!.>• tho players -->* i*- secret, and refuser' produce it.

June 14.'.

There is little chauce of tho Melbourne Club's suggestion that the formation of a board of control should be held in abeyance until tho close of the season being; accepted. The New South Wales and the. Victorian Associations can only figure in the invitation to the Enerlish club by- .their recognition of the Board of Control. AH that is required now is for South Australia i to join the board. , -»/■■'- ' ■ ' ,; Jurie 18. Sinr William Lyne. after conferring witK Major Wardill at Melbourne, to-'dav" conferred with the trustees of- the Cricket" Ground. It is • understood that he intimated that the Melbourne Club preferred to cancel its agreement with the New South' Wales players if the Cricket Association would remove their suspension. The Melbourne Club is also desirous of co-operating with the other crickerinsr bodies with « view to securing tho visit of an English, team. Sir Wm. Lyne is to-night attending a meeting of the Cricket Association, whereat the proposal is to be .-discussed. The result is not yet known*.
