TRAP NESTS PREVENT BROODINESS.
Mr L. B. Rhodes, of California, writing . of his own experience with trap n3sts, s-ays: "Broodiness i. 1 / unknown where these nests are used." 1 don't know that suchis the case witb Mr Rhodes's stock, and with some others, but I will not say that is always the case. Many poultry keepers want broody hens ea-ly in the season, and it is possible and easy so to handle a complete equipment of trap nests that hens possessing inherent breeding tendencies will become broody normally. But it i«, a- fact that normal broodiness comes on gradually as a result of permitting the la-yers to remain on' t.heh nest* with their epgs te louj? as they dssire. Frequently collecting \all eggs, removing the layers from the nests within a few hours, after laying,' locking the nests every afternoon as soon as tho laying has ceased, and making 6ure that' every hop is on the roost every night, will almost, if not. wholly, prevent broodijjes6. I believe, wiih others who -hare examined this matter wjth «onie care, that when rie. prevent, broodinesa .vo increase tJie average annual egg yield. < Abundant testimony to the advantages mentioned from poultrymeh. who have Lad long experience wiWi trap' neats, could lie given did space permit.
