NEW ZEALAND'S CONTRIBUTION DECLINED.
WELLINGTON, May 1. Mr Seddon has reoeived the following communication through the Secretary of State for the Colonies: — "Referring toyour telegram respecting the San Francisco disaster, the following has been received from his Majesty's Ambassador at Washington : ' The President desires me to express to the Government and people of New Zealand his deep appreciation of their sympathy. He -feels sure that tiiey will understand the people of the United v States a-rs none the less grateful because it has been deeded that 'it will be.unneoes- ' sary to accept help 1 from outside.' Under these ciroumstanoes • the New Zealand Government has decided to send to the New 'Zealand agent at San Francisco, the sum. of SOOOdol (£1250) for expenditure in the relief of suffering, and to ensure comforts for New Zealanders in San Francisco who may have suffered by the disaster."
Dr Fulton, through the Bank of Ne* Zealand at Wellington, has reoeived a wir* sVating that his brother was safe.
