PUKEURI JUNCTION.

April 28. — Threshing is almost completed, »nd most of the farmers who do not store in their own barns have already railed their groin to Oamaru or elsewhere. Prices for wheat and otta are tending upwards in London' and Australia, an<! that no doubt is jfoving its influence upon the local market. The threshing has painfully disclosed the fact that all round the yield is not up to expectations. Crops that were confidently expected to thresh well have panned out only half the estimate. It eeems more than likely that there must bo a material increase in values before the year is out. Potatoes. — Those whose crops escaped the [ravages of the. potato blight seem likely to be almost as good a°9 a gold mine. Unfortunately, however, the fields that did escape are few^ and far between. In some cases those who saved their crops from the potato disease by persistent spraying lost them in the end through their being attacked by the green aphis. The yield will certainly be below the average, and the quality wili'pro"tmbly be a tomewhat variable quantity. School.— Only six householders were present at the annual meeting, and consequently no committee was elected for the ensuing year. It is somewhat comforting to know that at least two others schools in North Otago tnjoy a similar distinction! Social.— Now that the long nights are with as again, it has been decided to revive the popular weekly dance. — Mr Valentine, the popular showman, visited us again this week, »nd gave a first-class exhibition of pictures. X understand that Mr George Wilson is also jlue here very shortly. Public Library.— The annual meeting of Hie"" subscribers will be held very soon, and no doubt the committee will be able to give ii satisfactory account of its stewardship fluring the year. The number of subscribers still keeps up very well. New books have been got and old ones replaced since last annual meeting.
