HIDE SALES.

Messrs Da'.gefcy and Co. report as follows- — We held our usual fortnightly sale of hides at our stores, Cumberland street, on Tuesday, when we offered an average catalogue of hides to a full attendance of buyers. Bidding was fairly brisk at prices about on a par^ with last sales, and occasionally a shade lower. In ox hides we had a line or two of extra stout, showing a good deal of substance, which sold readily up- to 7Jd, while s£d was reached for _uite a number of large cow hides. The following are a few of our sales: — Two ox, 701b, 7_d ; one ox, 83* ib, &1& ; five ox, 701b, 6Jd ; nine ox, 63lbs. sgd; fo\ir ox, 631bs, s_d; seven ox, 541b, s_d, three ox, 251b. sid; four ox, 481b, 54d. Cows: Two cow hides, 451b. s|d; two cow hides, 48lb, 5Jd; 17 cow hides, 431b,. 5Jd; two cow hides, 50]bs. s_d; one cow hide, 471b, s§d; five cow hides, 38lb, sgd; one cow hide, 301b, sj_d per 1b ; calfskins, Is 6d to 4s 6d each. The National Mortgager and Agency Company of New Zealand report as follows : — We held our usual sale of hides on Tuesday, 13th inst., when we offered an average catalogue. There was a good attendance of buyers, and bidding was very brisk. Prices, as compared with those ruling at 'tast sale, were slightly better for light and medium weights; while heavy weights were unaltered. We quote : Prime stout heavy ox, 6id to 6|d ; good heavy do, s|d to 6^d; medium do, s_d to i>id; light do, 5d to 5Jd; prime heavy cow hides, aid to s_d ; medium, 5Jd to sgd ; light, 5Jd to s_d; stage, 3d to 4£d per lb; yearlings, 4s 6d to" 7s 6d ; calfskins, 2s to 4s each. The Otago Farmers' Co-operative Association of Now Zealand report as follows: — We held ow fortnightly sale of hides on Thursday at our stores, Crawford street, when there was a full attendance of buyers. Our catalogue consisted of some 320 hides, made up chiefly of medium and light quality, all of which were in good condition. Bidding was veiy brisk, and prices realised were slightly in advance of our last sale. We quote: Extra heavy ox, 6_d to 7Jd ; heavy, 55d to 6_d; medium.. s_d to 6Jd; light, 5Jd to 5Jd; heavy ccw, 5Jd to s|d; mediUHl cow, s&d to s|d; lighifc cow, 5d to s|d; bull hides, 3|d to 4|d; yearlings, to 5d per lb; calfskins, 2s 5d to 7s 6d each. Messrs Waters, Ritchie, and Co. report having held their usual fortnightly sale of hides at their stores, Crawford street, yesterday afternoon. There was the usual atendance of buyers, and competition was active throughout the sale. Piices, as compared with the previous sale, ruled much about the same, medium weights occasionally slightly lower. We topped the market with a hide which brought 7j<J per lb on accotint of Mr Wm. Grindley (Albany street). We also topped the market with light weights, securing sfd for ,a line of 3 cows, averaging 391b each. We 'offered. 311 hides and calfskins, and cleared the lot at the following range of values: — Prime stout ox, 6_d to 7Jd; heavy do, 6d to 6_d ; medium do, s_d to 65 ; light do, sgd to s|d ; heavy cows, s£d to s£d ; medium do, 5Jd to s_d; light do, s_<3_ to s|d ; stags and bulls, 4d to 4_d; yearlings, 4_d to 5Jd per lb; calfskins, from 2s to 6s 6d each. Messrs. A. Moritzson and Co. report as follows' — We held our usual fortr^htly sale of hides at our stores, corner Crawford and Cumberland streets, on Thursday, when we offered a catalogue of 200 hides. The usual attendance of buyers was present, and competion was good, and prices as compared with the previous sale were firmer, with the exception of cut and damaged hides, which showed a slight decline. We passed a few lines of light hides, and disposed of same from Jd to j_d above prices offered at the sale. Our top prices were as follows: — One ox, averaging 701b, 6_d; one ox, averaging 68:b, 6gd; 32 cows, averaging 381b, s_d ; 13 cows, averaging 491b, &_d ; 11 cows, averaging 431b, s_d. We quote: Extra prime ox (stout) 6gd to 7d. extra heavy (good) s_d to 6Jd, medium s_d to 6gd, light s£d to s_d, extra heavy cows s£d to s_d, light 5Jd to sgd, yearlings 4_d to 5d per lb. calfskins (good) 3s 9d to 4s 6d, small 2s 4d to 3s 3d, horsehides 7s 6d to 9s.
