DUNEDIN D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.

I Motto : " Union is strength." Dear Dot.-The usual weekly meeting of the Dnnedm D.L.F Literary and Debating SK: wa * J eM m the BL - F - room in th* witness Office on Tuesday evening, March 13. There were present of the committee- fhe president (Awkward Ned), in the chair ; Harry, Go Hoa, Tomahawk, Cornish, C.C.M. Lads, Uundas, and lea. Willow Brook and Ceres, two officials of the Invercargill Society, -were also present, and were heartily -welcomed by the president, on behalf of the club. Emerald being unavoidably absent, Ned proposed tha* Ceres act as secretary for the evening. This was seconded by Harry, and carried unanimously. The subject that had been chosen for the evening was " The Qualities Necessary in a, True D.L.F.," and excellent papers were contributed by the following D.L.F. : — Maori Chief, A Mother's Lass, Harry, Cornish, Scribbler, Mountain Eambler, Paparoa, lea, Brenda, Willow Brook, T.D.A., Tangles, Go Hon, Circe, Violet Rose, C.C.M., and Ceres. The various papers were listened to with the closest attention, and on the last contribution being read a very hearty vote of thanks, moved by Ceres and seconded by T.D.A. and! Harry, was accorded the writers, special mention being made of the splendid papers sent in by our country comrades. The motion was carried by acclamation. During an interval in the reading of the papers the Editor extended a further welcome to the president and vice-president of the Invercargill Club. In thanking the editor and members for their kind welcome, current topics in the D.L.F. world were briefly touched upon by Willow Brook and Ceres, the latter eulogising tho splendid work done by Boy in connection ■with the D.L.F. Magazine. Ned also spolse, and mentioned the success that was attending the sale of the magazine " Hope." A motion '" That the club meeting be held on Friday insteady of Tuesday evening" was brought forward by the president. Harry seconded the v motion pro forma, but after a good deal of discussion the motion was withdrawn, members being practically unanimous in favour of holding the meetings on Tuesday evenings, as at present. The president, having intimated the subject for the following week's debate, then declared the meeting closed. — Yours truly, CERES, Acting Hon. Sec. i
