COMPETITION. ;•'% fifth annual Goldfields Challenge ■ ;ST ld , competition was held at Cromwell on barturday, March 17, and resulted in a win for -*,*"•«' Cromwell Eifies after a very closely con.tested match. The weather was perlect — in fact, too bright for good shooting, and at the I 600 yards range a very tricky cross wind gave Cthe shooters some trouble, so that the scores ! were not high. The finish proved very exciting, as the Queenstown team maintained a lead until almost the last. • Captain M'Kenzie I was range officer, and got the match oS with- : out * hitch. Private "Ward (C.E.V.), as chief j scorer, carried out his duties in an efficient . and painstaking manner. The conditions of - -the match were: — Seven men aside, and seven shots at each range, with two optional .- sighters. The scores were as follow : — ~s ~- Cromwell Eifles.
