HIDE SALES

i, ' Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report l- a 9 follows: — We held our usual sale of hides 3 on Tuesday morning, when we had a* very fine catalogue, comprising in all 792 hides and calfskins. There was a good attendance of th» trade, although one or two buyers, who havo ' recently been operating in this market, were ' not present. This is probably due to the fact ' that recent advices from Australia indicate a c decline in prices there. Our catalogue con6 sisted mainly of hides of medium weight, and! " rather sheety quality; the classes that are at present least in request. Stout and light hidea ' were as well competed for as ever and realised! 1 fully late quotations. Medium, on the other ; hand, were dull of sale, and in order to da 1 business a reduction of Jd per lb on values ' current at last sale had to be submitted to. Our catalogue was practically cleared at the 1 following range of prices: — Extra stout heavy ' ox, 6|d to 7|d; heavy ox, 6d to 6gd; medium) ! ox, 5?, dto &id; light ox. sgd to sgd; extra stout) heavy cow, s^d to 5Jd; medium cow, 6d to > s*d; light cow, sj>d to s|d; stags and bulls, - 3Jjd to 4id; yearlings, 5s to 10s 3d; calfskins, r 3s to Bs. Following are some of the best results obtoined at per hide: — One ox. 741b, 1 at 6£d, 38s 8d; 12 ox, 7i:b, at 6£d, 38s sd; nin^ ox, 68lb, at 7Jd. 38s; two ox, 711b, afi 1 6^d 375; one ox, 671b, at 6id, 36s Id; two ox, 671b, at 6|d, 35s sd; one cow, 651b, at 5Jd, 29s lOd. 1 Messrs Stronach, Morris, and Co. report. — ■ ' We held our fortnightly sale of hides at our j stores, Crawford street, on Tuesday, when wo submitted a catalogue totalling 231. Thera I was an average attendance of buyers, and competition on the whole was good. Prices compared to last sale were slightly higher for light and medium weights, and heavy weights , sold on a par with last quotations. We had ! nothing of exceptional merit forward, and our. top price, for ox hides was 6|d, which was paid for one weighing 751b. We also sold foui 66's and one 68 at 6|d. and several others from; 6d to 6id. In cow hides our top priec wag s|jd, the bulk of the entry selling from 5Jd to 5Jd. Our top price in money value for ox was £1 17s 7d, and for cows £1 5s Bd. The following are actual prices paid at our sale: — Prim« stout heavy ox hides 6J«I to 6|d, good heavy do 51d to "6|d. medium weight do 5Jd to 5Jd, light weight do sid to 5Jd, stags and inferior 3d to 4^d, prime heavy cow hides 5Jd to 5Jd' # medium weight do 51d t» s§d, light weight do 5Jd to sgd, cut and inferior lid to 4£d, yearlings 4s lOd to 7s 9d, calfskins 2s 3d to 4s each. Messrs Donald Eeid and Co. (Limited)! report as follows- — We held cur fortnightly, sale on Tuesday, when a full muster <*f buyers* both tanners and exporters, were in attendance. Our catalogue was made up principally of country butchers' consignments ofl medium and light-weight hides, most ofi v/hich w-er© in fairly good condition, one oi>two lota being particularly well saved. Tabexi all through ffie 9ale must be considered fairly satisfactory, though an occasional lot solv below lass week's rates, prices generally showed no material change. Wo quote:!
