NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.

CHRISTCHURCH, November 17.

The annual meeting of th-s New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held this evening. The annual report showed cash at credit £44 17s Bd. The net profits from tLe Shrubb-Duffey tour were £10 lb's Id, onefourth of which wou'd be remitted to Auckland, "Wellington, and Otago Centres en receipt of the New South Wales Association's

share of the general expenses. The backward state of amateur athletics in the North Island was engaging the attention of the executive Eiutlioiities. Many North Island Clubs had Leoome defunct, and only one or two new or.os had been formed, until at present only five northern clubs remained affiliated. The executive was of opinion that vigorous efforts should be made during the coming season to organise new clubs in PauiatJa., Dannevirke, Kapier, l^eildmg, Palmerstoii North, Wjinganui, Hawera, Stratford, New Plymouth, Hamilton, Cambridge, Thames, Paeroa, Waihi, and Gis borne districts. The report was adopted.

II was decided that Dunedin be offered the New Zealand championship meeting for the coming year. Mr W. G. Atack w<is elected president and Mr F. J. Sandford secretary. A motion — " That the motion re triennial removal of headquarters sent from Dunedin be agreed to" wa,s lost by seven votes to two, mad a motion for the removal of headquarters to Duredin was negatived by the same majority. A motion from Wellington for rescinding of rule for the imposition of license fees yearly was lost. A sub-committee was appointed to go into the matter of the reorganisation of amateur athletics in the North Island. It was resolved to write to the Athletic Association of Australasia heartily endorsing its action with regard to the Olympian games of 1908 at Rome, and stating that efforts would be made to send a New Zealand term.
