Percy's Trousseau. —A Wedding Season Fantasy.—
On the day before hi? bachelor dinnex Percy asked Clarence, his best man, ami Clive, Harold, and Egbert if they'd like t<s insuect his trousseau.
"Why, of course, you stupid thing !"' they chorussed in reply. " We'd been wondering why you hadn't asked us before." Percy, laughing a confused little laugh, apologised for his seeming neglect, and, without more ado led the way to his bachelor apartment. There the tailor aud his helper were putting finishing touches upon a smart going-away suit, but with this exception his "things" were complete and outspread for inspection upon the Led. Tile momeafc they saw the array. Clarence, ther best man, and Clive, Harold, and Egbert all began talking at once.
" What a perfect dear of a waistcoat !'' cried Clarence in ecstasy.
" Isn't it !'' echoed Clive,
" Percy, where did you get these Madra,' shirts?*' asked Harold, fondling thenii "They're the dear-est things!" " What simply stunning patent leathers !'' was Egbert's contribution to the chatter.
The tailor, busily plying his needle, smiled indulgently at their youthful enthusiasm.
"Your suit is about done, pir."' he quietly. "Will you try on the coat? 1 '
'"Oh, do, Percy ! We're dying to see it on you!" the quartot begged in unison.
" It's a perfect love of a fit.'"' EgberU' effervesced. '" Look. (Jlive ! See how clifinely it sets across the shoulders!"'
'" She'll fall in love with you all ovel again," *aid Clarence slyly, "when she sees you in that !"
"Oh, ihe idea!" cried Percy, emoarlasscd but evidently not displeased. "And
_^_ . |sow Io show 1 you my wedding suit— this 1b it " Openiag a wardrobe, he disclosed to their jeager eyes a "black frock coat of rich material, a 'while waistcoat, cut low in ■tl c Heck, and a pair of pearl-grey trousers. "And, oh, boyaj" he exclaimed, scarce Jfoaiting for their murmurs, of delight to Subside. "What DO you think father has ■gi\en~me to wear with it at church? A brief pause, then: "Oh, what?" cried Clarence. "TelL us, quick !"- echoed Clive. " Something splendid, I know, said JHarold. "And old," added Egbert. • "Yes," vrent on Percy; "both old and splendid. His -father's diamjond- collar button. Granddad was married in itj so ,was father. " And -now, I'm to he !" No, reader; the above is not drawn from life. It is merely how it would sound if grooms and groomsmen talked and acted »s brides and bridesmaids do. — Puck.
