WELLINGTON NOTES.

Bi Onidokek.

November 3,

Among the visitors to Wellington this week were Messis C. W. Cropper, secretary of the Kalgoorlie Racing Club, a flourishing institution on the Westralian goldfields, and Mr E. M. Betts, a member of the committee of the Australian Jockey Club. They were passing through on their way tc Chiistchurch to attend the Canterbury Jockey Club's carnival.

Clanburn remained at the Hutt after the Wellington meeting, having been purchased by a local owner. He will make his first appearance in his new owner's colours in the Wairarapa County Cup at the Carterton meeting. The same stable is also represented by Hydrant, but they will run in different interests.

Your correspondent is informed that on the evidence given in the Nnma appeal case the Metropolitan Committee unanimously decided to uphold A. Hall's appeal. Evidence was given by W. Youngr, G. Walls, and W. Retter, who rode in the race, to the effect that Numa struck first Inirdle very hard, and only for assistance received his rider would have been Unseated. The Otaki Club was represented by Mr Hakaria Te Whena.

Mr J. H. Pollock, who was last week appointed handicapper to the Wellington Racing "Club, has for the past season or two acted in a similar capacity for the Otaki and Masterton Clubs. The Wellington Racing Club' is weft represented 1 at the Canterbury carnival. Messrs J. B. Harcourt, J. W. Abbott. R. -T. Turnbull, W. H. Turnbull. H. Johnston, A. E Whyte, and Hon. T. E. Macdonald will be present. The grass on the Wellington Racing Club's new tracks at Trentham has done well. At present there are a thousand sheep feeding on the tracks, and also making them firmer than they otherwise would fee. Togoa was taken south yesterday to fulfil his engagement in the Maiden Plate at Riccarton. The Seaton Delaval. horse also appear,^ among the acceptors for the opening day of the Taratahi-Cartertoa meeting. F. Higgott^will also be represented at Riccarton' by .Petticoat. The programmer for the summer meeting of the Wellington Racing Club has- not yet been definitely decid-eel upon. The removal of the Wellington Stakes to the spring programme^ and the deletion of the Disposal Stakes leaves two events to be added to the bill of fare. Neithfr "open nor hack hurdla events have filled well at the Hutt for some reason or other. It has been suggested that a pony race should be put on the programme each day. Your correspondent thinks a Trial Plate and Hack Scurry would be more attractive and pay better than pony races, which are a success in Auckland, but would not catch on so well here, for the simple reason that we have not the ponies. In several cf the events at the Hutt tlii^} money will be given. . The Anniversary Handicap has been increased from 120sovs to 150sova, of which lOsovs goes to the third horse. Each bf the four hack races have been increased to lOOsovs. All the other handicap events' remain al the same value as at present.

W. Davis took Black Rfynard and Ballarat down to Riccarton. The first-named is pretty well at present, and, provided he does not have the bad luck to run up against any of the Yaldhurst team, may win a race before he returns.

Fairly satisfactory acceptances have been received for the Carterton-Taratahi meeting, to be held on Thursday and Friday of next week. Nine horses remain in the Guineas, whioh may be won by Lady White. Hcrses which ran prominently at Masterton may again show winning form. Aberration looks well in the Hack Flying, Bounce in the Hurdles, and Huremoana in the Hack Welter. Gawain may run well in ihe Railway Handicap, and if the going is solid Operetta may win ihe Mile Hack Race, and the Cup may go to Hydrant or Kuroki. The latter will shape better on solid going than he did in the mud at Masterton. Splendid Idea, and Rosegrove may accouns for the Trial Plate and Scurry. The Hutt stables will be represented at Carterton by Bounce, Wind, Clanburn, Hydrant, Togos, Gip&y Jack, and Eolua> The Gipsy Grand — Coronal colt Grand Circle has not made the improvement this season that was expected. He has been thrown out of training for the present, and when he next appears in the race cards will be described as a gelding. A syndicate in tfie Registrar of Friendly Societies Office in the Government Building 9 has drawn Warroo in one of Tattersall's sweeps on the Melbourne Cup-
