The directors' report of the Taieri and Peninsula Milk Sxipply Company has just been circulated.. The balance tor the year, including the haiance brought forward (£1642) from last year, is £9215 4s, which i* is recomn■ended shall bo dealt with as follows: — To payment of dividend at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum, which will Sibsorb about £1792,

This will require . about . £4762, and the balance to be ' carried forward to next year's account, £2600 163 2d. The- quantity of milk purchased during the year for 'butter-making was 113,827,498 ipounds, producing 4,410,375 pounds of butter fat. The amount of butter churned was 2217 •tons. The amount" of butter made up was 2194~-tons; the loss in making up 23 tons. The quantity of milk" purchased for selling purposes was 403,506ga1; tha quantity sold Sfl4,ol3gal; the loss in selling, 12,144ga1; amount of cream sold, 68,653 pints; the loss in distribution, 193 pints. During the year ■we erected large refrigerating stores, -which enable us to save considerable sums by freszi«g our butter for shipment to South Africa. The saving on this alone, including the Go'onmenttsubsidy, amounted to'£67ol, besides T?ie chsffges that would have been incurred' ~sor haulage, handling, etc. A complete plant -was also erected foT making butter boxes, at s. cost of £600 ; by this means a saving -of ' about £800 per annum is anticipated. Another ~j?!easing fea-ture l *is -the reduction" of the" rate v «f freight on export butter. This, in the 'coming i season, will considerably assist the company's : finance, and increase 4 the rate to ' "Suppliers.
