Shortly after the Telegraph Office closed at 2 a.m.*on Saturday the debate on the Maori Land Settlement Bill terminated," and 1 the second reading was agreed to on the voices. The Hon. Mr Carroll did not exercise his right ' to reply owing to the fact that &out 2 a.m. Mr* Kaib.au was taken suddenly ill in the main lobby. Medical aid •was summoned; and in the meantime Mr Seddon,' x members of the Ministry, the Leader ' of the " Opposition, and others assisted to revive the member for the Western Maori District. Under medical attention Mr Kaihau showed signs of reviving, - and was removed to the Whips' room, where he was made comfortable, and at 3 a.m. the medical verdict was that he was on a fair, way. towards recovery. , THE MINING BILL. The Mining Act Amendment Bill was reported upon by the Goldfields and Mines Committee to-day. The measure has undergone considerable alteration at the hands of the committee, but the majority of the proposed changes are of a minor character. The power to borrow money from the Government for inining purposes, which was conferred on companies alone by the original bill, is proposed to be extended to individuals. It is also proposed to give mine managers the right of appeal to the District Court in regard to the cancellation of their certificates, and to give power to the Land Boards to waive residence on leases granted under "The Mining Districts Land Occupation Act, 1894"
